I have been a fan of the Eddings’ for many years, and while I have owned this book for a while, I hadn’t found the right time to read it until now. Mr Daniel Bodle Rather than a story about a boy prophesied to save the world this is the story of the man who has been ordering that world so the boy has something to stand on while he fulfills the prophecy. It’s unique in that it’s a prequel to a single generation of people that have their own stories broken into six books.
Unlike the rest of the series, “Belgarath the Sorcerer” was written in first person from the perspective of Belgarath, and just like the character, it was a bit long win This was just kind of a fun little pre-history of the Belgariad and Malloreon series. In neighboring Lamorkand, the customary davie unrest turned ominous with whispers that the bloody heroes of old soon would rise again.
Beierle is best I’m very glad that he got to do Belgarath. Fills in the history perfectly! David Eddings was an American belgarah who wrote several best-selling series of epic fantasy novels. Yes sometimes he makes an error but to keep up all the different accents and voices throughout the 11 books and read with the proper cadence an f2f inflection is extremley difficult.

I read this before, because I was starved for more about these characters and had read “The Belgariad” and “The Mallorean” several times. However, by the time I got around to reading the Eddings’ attempt to retcon the Belgariad with the follow-up series, The Mallorean, I was already chafing a little bit from impatience with the repetitiveness of the narrative – actually a plot point in and of itself, if you can believe that! I love this book and it is a great addition to the series.

A must read for young fantasy readers. Belgarath was often grumpy, could be foolish, and lost his temper with people.

To understand this book you need to have read the other 10! If you like epic fantasies that live and breath, “Belgarath” and other works by David and Leigh Eddings are right for you!
If they do, then it will spoil everything belgaratb them within the first few minutes of the book. For conspiracy is brewing in Valdemar, a deadly treason that could destroy Queen and kingdom. Well, not wholeheartedly, and not necessarily even to a completist like myself.
