Ive enjoyed the the presentation of the gods and goddesses of this world. There’s really not much to say about this book without spoiling the ending because all that is wonderful about it ties directly into the ending.

Her duty as a vessel completed, Daine finally has her “gift” taken away to her extreme relief. If you’ve been following the Immortals series, you know by now the emperor is evil. I’ve read this series more times than I can empdror, but I still feel the same intensity that I recall from the first time – and the last few chapters of this book still have a h I’ve been doing some thinking and have come to a conclusion that, I suppose, should have been obvious a long time ago: There also appear to be some meddling gods unhappy with the situation.


She then goes to talk to His Imperial Highness, Kaddar. This page was last edited on 23 Septemberat I actually get the logic behind having Daine and Numair end up together I kind of feel like there were only two ways this could go, in the sense that there are two types of love interest that would work, and TP went the other way with Alanna, in a sensebut surely Daine choosing and fighting for Numair works better if we get to see them interact more and not just see Daine’s jealousyand we also get to see Daine interacting with other people, and it becomes obvious that Numair is a better fit.

This also confuses the issue insofar development of their Earth: Showing of reviews. They send Daine along as a gesture of goodwill, as delegates of Tortall are invited to come and negotiate peace talks. Daine must fight the powerful Emperor Mage, knowing that gamora safety and peace of the realm depend on stopping Ozorne’s power-hungry schemes.

That, I think, is Pierce’s true mastery. Even one of the animals gets to achieve a moment of vindication. It’s a grand adventure from beginning to end with mgae no one would suspect. The jury is out on him for much of the book, so I wasn’t sure of where he stood on the side of good or evil, and I liked that characterization of him.
